Golf Tip: Chipping and Pitching Technique

golf pitchingYou’ve heard the term “drive for action, putt for results.” I personally think you should include chipping and pitching in the mentality of the sentence.

For professional golfers, 50 percent of their blows fell right in or around the green. For mid-level golfers are bigger numbers – about 50-60 percent of the punches 15 handicapper, like me, do it in about 50 yards (45 m).

When I started playing 20 years ago, I hit the drive with a bucket full of balls. I use the driver only for half a bucket. The rest, I use a variety of other sticks. I’m then going to the putting green with three balls and practice putting green about 10 minutes. I rarely do the chip and I’ve never practiced hitting shots in the range of 50 yards. The blows that I need to train more.

However, when Big And next to you a shot its driver more than 300 yards, it is difficult to draw sand wedge and play 25-50 yards in distance control.

To really improve, you must start with the blows that are not too glamorous as chipping, pitching and putting. Today I want to focus on chipping and pitching. If you already make it close enough to the hole, then it will be easier to do the putting.

Chipping
Chip is played when you’re 2 or 3 yards from the green and the grass is too high for the putt. The most best way to play a chip is like a putt. The difference depends on the stick you use. The key is to reduce in the air and to put the ball on the green quickly and roll like a putt. You can use any of the 3-wood for the hybrid to sand wedge. It all depends on the length of the grass and the location of your ball. General Stick is a 7-iron.

Use the same motions as you would be putting. Your target landing site sidelines or on the green and let the ball rolled into the hole. Again, stick you use at the location of the ball and also how far you are from the green. If you’re 5 feet from the hole with a green 4 feet then the PW or SW is going to be the best choice.

If you’re 40 feet from the hole with the green 35 feet then use a 7-iron or hybrid. The position of the ball should be toward the back foot. Keep your hands slightly in front of the sticks. Perform a soft punches and hitting through the ball, do not be slowed.

Now if you play on the field with tall grass and thick around the greens it is recommended you use the SW and use a flop shot or bunker. It blows very hard and certainly requires the ability to blow a high level. Therefore practice, practice, practice.

Much like putting, the result you want is to put the ball in the hole but if you fail, try to be in 18-inch putt for your convenience.

Pitching
Pitching is something that takes a long workout but all the time and effort you put to pitching will get great results. Pitch is a blow that is played from 50 yards and less. The goal is to make the ball within 3 feet of the cup. One of the biggest mistakes made is the player they were targeting the flag and do it. The proper way to play the pitch is hit the ball towards the third part of the green and let the ball rolled to the other two thirds.

So first of all you have to identify the first third part of the green, then you read the directions glide into the hole. You select the landing sites and firing. Pitch is almost always played with a sand wedge. The only exception to lob wedge. This ensures you get enough rounds to control the blow.

Next time go to the gym to try to do a blow-third of your buckets with driver and iron and 2 / 3 more of the ball pitching. Then go to the putting green and practice chipping with iron to increase the sense of variations on the game chipping.

I guarantee, if you spend 60 percent of your practice time for batting practice, your shot will reach 60 percent in the field and reduce your points. And you’ll enjoy it more.(Michael Byers)
